BALLOONACY
A red balloon drifts through the window of a solitary old man’s home, but then some serious silliness begins. Without a single spoken word, this sweet, inventive, and uplifting show — packed with plenty of playful shtick, along with touching reminders of the ups and downs of building a friendship — is a tender and laugh-filled delight for all ages.
The lead (and only) actor in the show, Christopher Keller, was born and raised in Colorado Springs. Keller has traveled the country performing as a puppeteer and is a regular on the Millibo Art Theatre stage specializing in circus arts. “Balloonacy” is directed by the much-loved clown Jim Jackson, the co-founder and executive director of the Millibo Art Theater.
Written by Barry Kornhauser / Live Music with Mark Arnest

MARK ARNEST (Composer & Piano) Mark Arnest has been involved in the Colorado Springs theater scene since Theatreworks’ 1988 Monkey Business as composer, pianist, and music director. His last appearance at the Millibo was 2020’s The Notorious Nugget, a musical he wrote with his wife Lauren. Mark loves accompanying silent films (most recently The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari) and is grateful for his years accompanying melodramas at the Iron Springs Chateau, which prepared him for Balloonacy.
CHRISTOPHER KELLER (The Old Man) is a regular at the Millibo Art Theatre. You may remember him as the Elf on the Shelf in the Millibo’s “Most Magical Gift” or with his amazing dogs in “The Incredible Millibo Circus.” Lead coach with the Millibo Circus Club, Christopher began his circus adventure right here in Colorado Springs. After graduating from clown college in 2009, he traveled the U.S. performing in the big top as a puppeteer. Returning to the Springs in 2020, Christopher works hard bringing circus to all corners of the community.
JIM JACKSON (Director ) is an internationally acclaimed clown with over 45 years of laughs in circus and theatre. From 1976 – 2001, he toured his solo shows throughout the U.S., the U.K. and Canada. In 2002 he and Birgitta co-founded the Millibo Art Theatre where he has produced and directed many theatre, circus, and cabaret performances. He credits his three daughters Julia, Caitlin, and Lisbet
for his best jokes.
AJ VAFIADES (Balloonist/Artista de Globos) is a graduate from the UCCS Theatre and Dance Program and is currently pursuing her MBA in Project Management. She is delighted to be returning to the Millibo once again as an actress, but she has run lights for several shows, including Circus of the Night, Bluebird, and The Women’s Theater Festival. Previously, AJ has appeared in roles such as Holly in Elves Got Talent (MAT), the Balloon in Balloonacy (FAC and MAT), the Foley Artist in It’s a Wonderful Life (FAC) and Oberon and Helena in A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Theatreworks).
